Sgt Darrell Dawkins with the Woodruff City Police Dept along with other Law Enforcement Officer's were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at the location, Sgt Dawkins announced the Police's presence and was fired upon. As a result of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office assisting the Woodruff Police Department with their incident from earlier today, SCSO Investigators have charged Dennis Ray Alexander, B/M, DOB: 041977, 538 Harrison St., Woodruff, SC, 29388, with the following charges: Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime, and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. the SCSO have also requested a formal bond hearing on those charges, which will be held tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM. As Chief Bledsoe stated at his press conference earlier today, Alexander confessed to our investigators to shooting Sgt. Dawkins and confirmed a small child was in the room with him at the time of the incident, but stated he thought he was being robbed by another individual. Sgt Dawkins was treated and released from SRMC and is recovering.
