05/03/2013 - Man Arrested following Standoff with Deputies

On Thursday, May 2, 2013, deputies responded to 120 Leawood Drive in the Camp Croft area of Spartanburg County in response to a 911 call reporting an assault between an adult brother and siste . Upon arrival deputies made contact with the victim, Ms. Pamela Allen, who told deputies that her 47 year old brother, Jimmy Larkin Dill, had been physically assaulting her for the past few days and she wanted it to stop. Deputies attempted to make contact with Mr. Dill but he would not come out of his locked bedroom. Deputies exited the residence to further speak with Ms. Allen. At that time Mr. Dill came to the front door of the residence and verbally threatened the deputies. Mr. Dill went back into the residence and began to close windows and blinds throughout the house. When asked if Mr. Dill had access to any firearms Ms. Allen said yes and that he had fired a shot from a pistol earlier before the deputies arrived. Mr. Dill reappeared at the front door armed with a handgun which he pointed in the direction of the deputies. Deputies then moved themselves and Ms. Allen to a protective position and notified an on duty supervisor. Upon further assessment of the situation the decision was made to call in a negotiation team and the SWAT team. For about the next six hours negotiators spoke with Mr. Dill trying to persuade him to come out of the house. Shortly before 11:00 PM the decision was made to introduce tear gas into the residence to help encourage Mr. Dill to peacefully come out of the residence. About 11:30 PM SWAT team members entered the home and took Mr. Dill into custody without incident. Mr. Dill was transported to the hospital to be checked out since he had been exposed to tear gas. He was treated and released and was booked into the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center shortly after 3:00 AM this morning.

There were approximately 3 rounds discharged inside the home by Mr. Dill during the course of the standoff with deputies. However, none of these shots were directed at the deputies outside of the residence. The professional manner in which all personnel involved in this incident performed their assigned duties are directly responsible for the safe and peaceful conclusion to this event. We would like to thank our partners with EMS and the Fire Services for their assistance in the response to last night’s incident.

Mr. Dill has been charged with one count of Assault and Battery 3rd Degree and two counts of Pointing and Presenting a Firearm at a Person. Mr. Dill has been less than cooperative with the intake process at the detention center so I do not have an intake photo of him to share with you at this time. You may check this website throughout the day to see when an intake photo of Mr. Dill has been posted - bookings/booked3.xml . A check of our records database does not indicate any previous criminal reports with the Sheriff’s Office involving Mr. Dill. At this time we do not have any idea why Mr. Dill chose to take the course of action he took last night.
