12/17/2014 - Investigators arrest teacher fo Sexual Battery Against a Student

Earlier today, an investigator with the Special Victims Unit of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested a former teacher at Broome High School for the offense of Sexual Battery with a Student. The suspect is Jonathan Neil Dover. School District 3 officials were notified several weeks ago by several sources of a possible inappropriate relationship between Dover and his student. Those officials conducted their own investigation into the allegation, and as a result, Dover was allowed to resign from his position on Monday, December 8, 2014. That same day, the officials notified law enforcement of their findings, which began a criminal investigation by this agency that included a detailed interview with the victim, who alleged a sexual battery against Dover that occurred on the campus of Broome High School. The investigator presented her findings to a magistrate yesterday afternoon, who issued the warrant for Dover’s arrest. Investigators were unable to locate Dover last night, but after he retained an attorney earlier today, that attorney facilitated Dover turning himself in at the Sheriff’s Office a short time ago.
