3/6/2013 - Arrest made in theft of $18,000 worth of Girl Scout Cookies

Earlier today, an investigator with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested Christopher Maurice Morton, B/M, DOB: 112575, 390 Lot Switzer Rd., Woodruff, SC, 29388, on a warrant for Breach of Trust > $10,0000 for the missing Girl Scout cookies from Carey Moving and Storage, 930 Monks Grove Church Rd., Spartanburg, SC, 29303. The missing cookies were first reported to this agency on February 26, 2013, and from working with the management at the location and reviewing invoices and surveillance video, Morton was developed as a suspect.  

On Sunday night, March 3, 2013, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office notified this agency of the discovery of 352 cases of Girl Scout cookies behind an abandoned business on Haywood Rd. When the investigator spoke with Morton today, he confessed to stealing 450 cases of cookies, valued at $18,900, from the business and disposing of the cases in Greenville. Morton was employed as a truck driver by Carey Moving and Storage since July, 2012. He has been terminated as a result of his arrest. Mr. Morton should have a bond set by a magistrate judge later tonight.
