1/15/2013 - Boiling Springs man charged with sexual misconduct with a minor

On Saturday, January 12, 2013, a report was filed with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office reporting illegal physical contact of a sexual nature between the complainant’s minor aged daughter and a 71 year old man. An Investigator assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit started an investigation which revealed that the victim had attended Restoration Church on Wednesday evening, January 9, 2013. While there she met the suspect, William Hughes, who works as a volunteer at the church. Mr. Hughes had the victim accompany him to his home where he supplied her with alcoholic beverages and sexually assaulted her.

The results of the investigation were presented to a Spartanburg County judge who issued warrants for the arrest of Mr. Hughes on one count each of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – Victim under 16 years of age. Mr. Hughes has been booked into the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing at a time to be set by the court.
